In a move aimed at providing a fresh start for his career, former Green Bay Packers tight end Josiah Deguara has signed a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to reports from Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz. The signing presents an opportunity for Deguara to contribute as a special teamer while also potentially seeing limited action on offense.

Deguara's tenure with the Packers has been marked by mixed results. Despite being an undersized tight end, he was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft but struggled to make a significant impact. In his rookie contract, he started only 10 games for Green Bay.

During his time with the Packers, Deguara's involvement on offense gradually declined. His snap counts on that side of the ball dropped from 367 in 2021 to 196 in 2023. However, he showcased his value on special teams, participating in 57% of the team's reps in 2023, the highest among offensive players and third-highest overall.

The Packers' decision to bring back tight end Tyler Davis, who missed the entire 2023 season due to injury, made it unlikely that Deguara would return to Green Bay. With Davis joining 2023 rookies Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, and Ben Sims in the tight end position for the upcoming season, the team opted to part ways with Deguara.

In his 50 games with the Packers, Deguara tallied 47 receptions for 436 yards and two touchdowns. He also made his mark on special teams, contributing six tackles.

Joining the Jaguars, Deguara faces tough competition for playing time on the offensive side. Evan Engram, who signed a significant contract in 2023, occupies the top spot on the depth chart. Behind Engram, former draft picks Brenton Strange and Luke Farrell, along with Head Coach Doug Pederson's son Josh Pederson, will be vying for playing time. The final tight end roster spot may come down to a decision between Pederson and Deguara.

For Deguara, the move to Jacksonville presents an opportunity for a fresh start and a chance to contribute to a new team. As the Jaguars aim to bolster their roster for the upcoming season, fans will be watching to see if Deguara can carve out a role for himself and make an impact in Jacksonville.
