In the latest episode of his podcast, "Point Game," former University of Kentucky (UK) point guard sensation, John Wall, shared his thoughts on the departure of legendary coach John Calipari from Kentucky and expressed his unwavering support for both his alma mater and his former coach.

Wall revealed that he had spoken to Calipari on Tuesday and admitted that he "wasn't too shocked" by the separation, considering the reaction from fans after another early exit from the NCAA Tournament for the Wildcats. Despite the departure, Wall affirmed his loyalty to UK and described it as a second family, emphasizing the impact the university had on his career.

"It's sad to see him leave," Wall told his co-host, C.J. Toledano. "I'm still part of Kentucky. I'm still going to be Big Blue Nation. They gave me the opportunity to play on the highest level you can in college basketball in D-1, one of the biggest schools ever, and then get an opportunity to go to the NBA. That's always family."

While expressing his continued support for Kentucky, Wall also voiced his backing for Calipari, no matter where he coaches. He acknowledged the significance of a fresh start for Calipari, especially after facing mounting pressure and diminishing support in Lexington.

"At Kentucky, it's a lot of pressure. They want to hang banners. They don't care about what the regular season record is; they want to go far in the tournament," Wall explained. "The last couple years haven't been that for him, and I think that kind of started to get to the fans."

Reflecting on Calipari's move to the University of Arkansas, Wall observed a renewed sense of excitement and joy in his former coach. He believes the change of scenery will rejuvenate Calipari and bring out the best in him as a coach.

"You can see it and hear it in his voice, like, he had a lot more joy," said Wall. "He's getting that excitement back now, and he's getting to start fresh. Sometimes you need a new fresh start, even though you might want to be with that person and stay with that person."

Wall acknowledged the challenge that lies ahead for whoever succeeds Calipari at Kentucky but expressed confidence in athletic director Mitch Barnhart's ability to make a good hire. He believes that the next coach will have the responsibility of upholding the program's legacy and striving for continued success.

As Wall looks towards the future, he expressed his desire to maintain a relationship with the new coach and continue being involved with the Kentucky basketball community. He hopes to have the opportunity to attend games, use the facilities, and support the team, emphasizing his deep connection to the university.

"Whoever the new coach is, I want to be able to build a relationship with him, so I have the opportunity to come back and still use the facility when I work out, come around and be around the team, and go to practices and go to games in support," said Wall. "That place is like home to me."

John Wall's comments exemplify the strong bond between Kentucky basketball and its former players, as he affirms his commitment to supporting both his alma mater and his beloved coach, John Calipari, in their respective journeys moving forward.
