The Tennessee Titans have made a major addition to their roster, as they have successfully landed veteran safety Jamal Adams. Adams, who was a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, traveled to Nashville to meet with team officials, and both sides quickly reached an agreement on a deal. Prior to leaving town, Adams was slated to sign with the Titans, solidifying his place on the team.
With the acquisition of Adams, the Titans have acquired another experienced player in their secondary for the upcoming season. Having been named a Pro Bowler three times in his career, Adams brings a wealth of talent and skill to the team. The 28-year-old safety has an impressive resume, having played in 80 games over seven NFL seasons.
During his time in the league, Adams has made his mark, accumulating impressive statistics. He has registered 493 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown), 36 passes defensed, 50 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 80 starts. Notably, his 21.5 sacks since 2017 are the most by a defensive back in the NFL.
Prior to joining the Titans, Adams spent his first three NFL seasons with the New York Jets, where he was coached by current Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. Afterward, he joined the Seattle Seahawks via trade. Unfortunately, Adams' recent seasons have been marred by injuries. In 2022, he suffered an injury that cut his season short, and in 2023, he played only nine games due to a concussion.
Despite these setbacks, Adams has established himself as a standout player throughout his career. In addition to being named a Pro Bowler three times, he has also garnered All-Pro honors twice, in 2018 and 2020. Notably, Adams excelled during his college years at Louisiana State University, further solidifying the Titans' trust in his abilities.
The addition of Adams comes as the Titans have been actively bolstering their secondary in the offseason. They previously acquired veteran cornerbacks L'Jarius Sneed, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Chidobe Awuzie, who previously played for the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals, through a trade and free agency, respectively.
With the acquisition of Jamal Adams, the Titans are making a strong statement about their commitment to strengthening their defense. As the new season approaches, fans eagerly anticipate seeing Adams on the field, where he will undoubtedly make a significant impact in Tennessee's secondary.
