**Cowboys' Negotiations with Micah Parsons Remain Unresolved**
The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves in a prolonged negotiation process with their star edge rusher, Micah Parsons. Despite more than a year to finalize an extension, the deal remains unsigned. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones remained tight-lipped about the ongoing discussions on Tuesday, answering repeated questions with a uniform response and eventually ending the conversation abruptly. "No different than anything else. I'll let you know when it happens," Jones said, as reported by Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com.
Parsons has attended some voluntary offseason workouts but has notably been absent from the organized team activities. Jones acknowledged that negotiating contracts is a common challenge that teams face. “That's part of the business. All teams go through it,” he stated, reflecting a pragmatic view on the situation.
While head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed optimism about Parsons attending the mandatory minicamp next week, Jones was less certain, indicating that Parsons' attendance might be influenced by the prospect of avoiding a fine. Schottenheimer, however, remained confident in Parsons’ commitment. "The thing that I know about Micah is Micah wants to be here. He's excited about what we're building,” Schottenheimer said.
He emphasized that Parsons has been dedicated to his preparations for the upcoming season, whether present at the facility or not. Drawing a parallel to the previous year, Schottenheimer expressed trust in Parsons’ professionalism and readiness.
Comparisons have been made to last year’s holdout by CeeDee Lamb, who remained absent from training camp until he secured a new deal just 12 days before the season opener in 2024. Now 25, Parsons is in the final year of his contract and is set to receive $24 million on his fifth-year option. He seeks a lucrative new contract, one that is anticipated to surpass Ja'Marr Chase's $40.25 million annual average, positioning him as the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
As negotiations continue, the Cowboys and their fans eagerly await a resolution that will secure Parsons’ talents for the future.
