**Kim Kardashian Faces Alleged Robbers in Paris Court**
Kim Kardashian, the well-known reality TV star and entrepreneur, recounted her harrowing experience during a robbery in Paris almost a decade ago while testifying in court on Tuesday. Recalling the terrifying moment thieves held her at gunpoint, Kardashian stated, "I absolutely did think I was going to die."
This court appearance marked Kardashian's sole testimony, where she confronted the accused, dubbed "grandpa robbers" by French media—a group of individuals in their 60s and 70s charged with stealing millions in jewelry from her during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. Prosecutors have labeled them as career criminals. Kardashian detailed the fear and confusion she felt when the masked thieves impersonated police officers and demanded her $4 million diamond engagement ring. At one point, a gun was pressed to her back, igniting fears of being raped or shot.
The courtroom saw an unusual level of activity due to Kardashian's presence, with scores of journalists and curious onlookers gathering from dawn. Despite cameras being prohibited inside the court, teenagers took selfies in the marble hallways as they waited for a glimpse of the star. One fashion student, Theo Chbouki, expressed his curiosity in witnessing Kardashian in a serious setting devoid of a social media façade.
Kardashian arrived in a composed yet somber demeanor, dressed in a long black skirt, a matching black jacket, and a diamond necklace. Testifying about her communications on Snapchat and her reality TV show comments regarding the incident, she starkly contrasted the defendants, many of whom are elderly and unfamiliar with the digital world.
One of the defendants, a 72-year-old man named Yunice Abbas, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and admitted to acting as a lookout during the robbery, expressed his formal apology to Kardashian. Ten individuals, including Abbas, face various charges ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to complicity and lesser offenses. The trial is expected to run until the end of May.
Simone Harouche, Kardashian’s friend and former fashion stylist who was also present during the robbery, recounted her shock upon hearing Kardashian's screams of terror. Harouche's testimony highlighted the profound impact of the incident on their sense of safety.
The robbery, in which jewelry worth at least 8 million euros was stolen, is believed to have been incited by Kardashian's social media posts showcasing her jewelry. Since then, she has altered her social media practices, avoiding real-time updates.
A letter from another defendant, Aomar Aït Khedache, now 69 and suffering from hearing impairment, was also read in court. Despite the letter being sent in 2017, Kardashian had not seen it until now. Expressing his regret, Khedache denounced claims of being the ringleader.
In response, Kardashian tearfully acknowledged the letter, emphasizing her belief in second chances and her advocacy for prison reform, but also underscored the irreversible impact and trauma she continues to endure from that night.
