### Tony Awards 2025: What to Expect from Broadway's Biggest Night
Cynthia Erivo will host the 2025 Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern. The CBS telecast will introduce millions of viewers to the latest Broadway productions, making it a crucial moment for the theater industry.
Erivo, who won a Tony in 2016 for her role in "The Color Purple," brings a unique flair to this year's event. She is known for her powerful vocals and striking fashion sense, but she plans to steer away from traditional hosting humor to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a Broadway show. Beyond her hosting duties, Erivo has a busy schedule ahead, with performances in "Jesus Christ Superstar" and a one-woman "Dracula."
This year's Tony Awards will feature performances from all five nominees for Best New Musical: "Buena Vista Social Club," "Dead Outlaw," "Death Becomes Her," "Maybe Happy Ending," and "Operation Mincemeat." In addition, shows nominated for Best Musical Revival will also take the stage, including "Floyd Collins," "Gypsy," "Pirates!," and "Sunset Boulevard."
A special highlight will be a 10th-anniversary performance by the original cast of "Hamilton," one of Broadway's top-grossing shows. Other notable performances include "Just in Time" and "Real Women Have Curves." Singer Sara Bareilles will perform during the In Memoriam segment, and viewers can expect an appearance by the Broadway Inspirational Voices.
The ceremony will honor 42 Tony-eligible shows from the past year, with 29 receiving at least one nomination. The most-nominated productions are "Buena Vista Social Club," "Death Becomes Her," and "Maybe Happy Ending," each with 10 nods. "Maybe Happy Ending," "Sunset Boulevard," and "Oh, Mary!" are anticipated to be significant winners.
Among the star-studded attendees, Sarah Snook, known for HBO's "Succession," is expected to take home a Tony for her role in "The Picture of Dorian Gray." Other celebrities set to appear include Oprah Winfrey, Samuel L. Jackson, Keanu Reeves, Adam Lambert, and many more. Lin-Manuel Miranda is slated to present the Best Musical award.
The broadcast will last three hours, concluding at 11 p.m. Eastern. A preshow event with awards for designers and creative team members will begin at 6:40 p.m. Eastern, streamed on Pluto TV. The New York Times will provide live updates of the red carpet, the preshow, and the main event starting at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
Michael Paulson, the theater reporter for The New York Times, will cover the event extensively.
