Escobar, a 27-year-old businesswoman from Miami, found herself at the center of a social media storm when old podcast clips of her using a racial slur resurfaced, igniting outrage among fans, just as the show’s seventh season premiered on June 3. Her departure was briefly acknowledged in the June 4 episode of the show via a voiceover.
Having left the incentive show, Escobar took to Instagram on June 6 to issue an apology regarding her previous comments. She expressed regret for her past use of a racial epithet, acknowledging the ignorance with which she had used the term and recognizing the significant hurt it caused. "I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using," Escobar wrote, explaining that she had not understood the full weight and history of the slur at the time.
Escobar further elaborated that her previous remarks were made thoughtlessly in casual conversation, a mistake she now sees clearly. She admitted to having grown significantly since making those comments and stressed the importance of acknowledging past mistakes as part of personal development. "Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it's uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability," she stated.
In her message, Escobar took complete responsibility for her actions, distancing herself from statements made by others that do not reflect her values. She concluded her apology by directly addressing and expressing remorse to those who were hurt or angered by her past actions, saying, "To those who are disappointed or offended, I understand and I apologize. I am sorry."
As of now, Peacock, the platform airing "Love Island USA," has not responded to inquiries regarding Escobar's departure. The decision to keep the details of her exit brief aligns with the show's history of minimal explanation for contestants' sudden disappearances. In past seasons, similar instances have occurred with contestants like Noah Purvis, Leslie Golden, and Kyle Fraser, who exited the show without detailed on-air clarification.
Despite the tumultuous nature of her departure, Escobar's public apology demonstrates her commitment to learning from her past and fostering a sense of responsibility moving forward.
