In a deeply moving episode of her podcast, Barely Famous, Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry’s 15-year-old son Elliott, formerly known as Isaac, came out as gay. During an emotional conversation, Elliott shared his journey and the reasons behind his name change with his supportive mother.

Elliott candidly discussed the difficulties of growing up on television, expressing how hard it was to be his true self. “It's very important to me because I feel like growing up on TV, it's hard to show who you really are when a camera is in front of you all the time,” he said. "It's almost like you have a TV face. It's harder to be yourself and to be more comfortable."

The podcast took a poignant turn as Kailyn, visibly moved, commended her son for his bravery. Fighting back tears, she expressed her pride, saying, “I'm crying because this shows your strength, and I'm just really proud of you. It's a really brave thing to do.”

Elliott also clarified his decision to come out publicly. "I want to be clear that this is for me. Let me have my moment. I'm really sick of people coming up with their own stories and putting things in their own words and things coming out on other people's terms about me," he emphasized.

Addressing his name change, Kailyn recalled not remembering a specific conversation but noticed changes in his paperwork. Elliott explained that he didn't feel connected to his former name, adding, "It just doesn’t feel like me in some way."

During the conversation, Elliott also shared how he felt supported by his mother throughout his life. Reflecting on this, he said, “I've always been comfortable around you, you've always made me feel comfortable around you. I never felt like I couldn't tell you something... and I've always been able to come to you about things."

Elliott's coming out followed the unexpected viral spread of prom photos, which had been posted on someone else’s Facebook page. He expressed his disappointment that he couldn't share this aspect of his identity on his own terms. "I was devastated. I also ugly-cried... Even if you thought you knew I was gay already, it’s disappointing I couldn't share it on my terms," Elliott remarked. "The way it happened was just not okay."

Kailyn, a mother of seven, shares Elliott with ex Jo Rivera. Her other children include Lincoln, 11, with ex Javi Marroquin; Lux, 7, and Creed, 4, with ex Chris Lopez; and Rio, 2, along with twins Verse and Valley, whom she welcomed in late 2023, with fiancé Elijah Scott.
