4 Billion Renovation for Everbank Stadium

In an exciting development for football fans, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville have reached an agreement for a $1.4 billion renovation project for Everbank Stadium. The ambitious endeavor aims to create a "stadium of the future" and secure the Jaguars' presence in the city for decades to come.

According to a statement released by the club, once completed, the renovated stadium is set to open its doors for the 2028 NFL season. The deal between the team and the city involves a contribution of $625 million from each party, with an additional $150 million allocated by the city for maintenance and repairs to the existing stadium prior to construction, which is scheduled to begin after the 2025 season.

Under the terms of the agreement, any cost overruns will be the responsibility of the Jaguars. The team will lease the new version of the stadium for a period of 30 years, solidifying their commitment to the city.

One noteworthy provision of the deal restricts the Jaguars to playing only one home game per season in London. However, the NFL has the authority to mandate a second home game in London once every four years, specifically during a season in which the AFC hosts nine home games.

Since 2013, the Jaguars have voluntarily played a home game in London every season, but now the frequency will be limited. This shift is not expected to impact the upcoming 2024 and 2025 seasons. However, for the 2026 season, construction will commence, reducing the stadium's capacity from over 67,000 to approximately 43,500. Consequently, for the 2027 season, the Jaguars will need to find a temporary home before the completion of the "stadium of the future" in 2028.

As per the NFL scheduling rotation, the Miami Dolphins' matchup against the Jaguars in the 2024 season will take place in Miami. This arrangement subsequently designates the 2027 game as a home game for the Jaguars, regardless of their temporary location.

While the exact temporary home for the Jaguars' 2027 season remains unknown, there are early rumors suggesting potential venues. Possibilities include Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the home of the University of Florida in Gainesville, or Camping World Stadium in Orlando. However, Daytona International Speedway, which had expressed interest in hosting the team, has been ruled out as an option.

With the AFC, including the Jaguars, set to host nine home games in 2027, the NFL might consider scheduling up to three games for Jacksonville in London, leading to a reduction in their home games for that season.

Football fans eagerly await the upcoming renovations to Everbank Stadium, which promise to elevate the game day experience for spectators and secure the Jaguars' future in Jacksonville.
