Cambridge, England - A Tesla owner, Shreyansh Jain, found himself facing a significant bill after being forced to take his brand-new 2023 Tesla Model Y in for extensive repairs less than two days after purchasing it.
Jain, an electronics engineer, had eagerly picked up his new vehicle, invested a substantial portion of his family's savings to buy it outright. However, his excitement quickly turned to disappointment when he experienced a terrifying steering failure while driving with his wife and 3-year-old daughter. The front-right suspension of the car collapsed, causing parts of the vehicle to scrape loudly against the road.
The incident left Jain and his family shaken, contemplating the potential catastrophe that could have occurred if the failure had happened at high speeds. Grappling with an unexpected turn of events, Jain was then faced with the daunting task of getting his car repaired.
The repairs proved to be a time-consuming and expensive affair, taking almost 40 hours to complete. The suspension had to be rebuilt, and the steering column required replacement, along with other necessary fixes. The total cost of the repairs amounted to over $14,000.
According to the repair estimate, Tesla refused to cover the cost and instead blamed the incident on "prior" suspension damage, leaving Jain frustrated and questioning the reliability of his new purchase. UNILAD has reached out to Tesla for comment on this matter.
Tesla has recently faced criticism and recalls due to a major safety flaw affecting over two million cars. The US auto-safety regulator has cited concerns about the Autopilot system's effectiveness in preventing misuse, urging Tesla to address the issue promptly. An investigation found that the driver assistance function failed to keep drivers engaged, leading to possible foreseeable misuse.
The incident with Shreyansh Jain highlights the challenges and financial burden that can come with owning a brand-new car, even from a reputable company like Tesla. This serves as a reminder for potential buyers to thoroughly research and consider all aspects before making a significant investment in a new vehicle.
