Tesla, under the leadership of CEO Elon Musk, has hit the spotlight once more as the company opts to hold back communications with Austin officials. In February, Reuters sought access to two years' worth of interactions between the automaker and the city. This request came soon after Musk hinted at new ambitions surrounding a robotaxi project.
In an April communication, Dan Davis, a public information officer for Austin, informed Reuters that "third parties" had urged the city to keep these records confidential. The justification for this request revolved around concerns about "privacy or property."
Reuters, pushing for transparency, decided to escalate the issue, seeking to make these communications public. As of now, the situation remains unresolved, highlighting ongoing tensions between public right-to-know principles and corporate privacy interests.
