In a surprising move, the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to trade quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to multiple reports. ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed that Pittsburgh will receive a third-round pick (No. 98) and two 2025 seventh-round picks in exchange for Pickett. As part of the deal, Philadelphia will also send a fourth-round pick (No. 120) to complete the trade.

Pickett, who was selected as the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 draft, started 24 games for the Steelers over the last two seasons, amassing a 14-10 record. While he showed promise with six fourth-quarter comebacks and seven game-winning drives, Pickett's overall performance did not meet expectations. In his rookie season, he completed 63 percent of his throws for 2,404 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. Last year, he completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

After suffering an ankle injury towards the end of the 2023 season, Pickett found himself replaced by Mason Rudolph as the starting quarterback even when he was deemed healthy. Reports suggest that Pickett wished for a fresh start after the Steelers signed Russell Wilson as their new quarterback. With Pickett now traded, Wilson is set to assume the role of Pittsburgh's clear starter heading into the 2024 offseason program.

Interestingly, Pickett's childhood dream of representing his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, is set to come true. He will now have the opportunity to serve as the backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

The trade indicates the Steelers' confidence in Wilson's abilities and their willingness to part ways with Pickett, who showed potential but struggled to establish himself as the franchise's long-term solution at quarterback. Only time will tell whether this move proves beneficial for both teams involved.
