### Rangers to Call Up Right-Hander Luis Curvelo for MLB Debut

The Texas Rangers are set to bring right-handed pitcher Luis Curvelo up to the Major Leagues, as reported by Daniel Álvarez Montes of El Extra Base. Curvelo, who is on the Rangers' 40-man roster, signed a major league contract in free agency this offseason but was sent to Triple-A earlier in the spring.

Curvelo, 24, has been on a notable journey since initially signing with the Seattle Mariners out of Venezuela during the 2017-18 international signing period. After becoming a minor league free agent last offseason, he inked a major league deal with the Rangers following an impressive season at Double-A, where he boasted a 2.57 ERA, a 30.6% strikeout rate, and a 7.1% walk rate.

In 2025, Curvelo has carried over his strong performance to Triple-A, maintaining a stellar 1.64 earned run average across 22 innings. His current stats also include a 26.9% strikeout rate and a 7.5% walk rate. Known for being a fly-ball pitcher, he has surprisingly improved his ground-ball rate to 44.6%.

Standing at 6'1", Curvelo's pitching arsenal primarily comprises a four-seam fastball averaging 95.5 mph, a sinker at 95.0 mph, and an 84.2 mph slider, which he uses almost 55% of the time. Before the 2025 season, FanGraphs' Eric Longenhagen praised Curvelo's slider with a 70-grade on the scouting scale but rated his fastball lower at 45 due to less effective command.

Bruce Bochy's bullpen will see Curvelo as the second new addition for their weekend series against the Nationals, with veteran Chris Martin having just been reinstated from the injured list. To accommodate Martin's return, the Rangers optioned pitcher Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock. They will need to clear another roster spot to make room for Curvelo's arrival.
