The NFL announced that the salary cap for the 2024 season will be $255.4 million, a significant increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to the full repayment of all amounts advanced during the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge in media revenue for the upcoming season.

The New England Patriots, already expected to have a substantial amount of cap space, are now set to have nearly $87 million available after the latest adjustment. By potentially releasing J.C. Jackson, they could further increase their cap space by over $14 million.

With the salary cap increase, players are likely to see benefits, including those eligible for the franchise tag. Safety Kyle Dugger and offensive lineman Michael Onwenu are speculated to be franchise tag candidates for the Patriots, with respective salary figures of $17,123,000 and $20,985,000 if tagged.

Furthermore, the rise in the salary cap could impact the use of franchise tags across the league. Wide receiver Tee Higgins from the Bengals was reportedly informed of receiving the franchise tag, potentially affecting free agency plans for teams like the Patriots.

As the Patriots gear up for the offseason, with potential moves in mind to utilize their cap space, the team stands in a promising position to make impactful roster decisions and acquisitions.
