One of the most intriguing players to watch ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft is Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. As a national title-winning quarterback, McCarthy's draft potential has become a major mystery, with speculation surrounding which team will select him and how high he will be picked.

Currently, there is a three-way tie among the Atlanta Falcons (pick eight), Minnesota Vikings (pick 11), and Denver Broncos (pick 12) in the race to draft McCarthy. Each team owns +500 odds at FanDuel, making the decision even more uncertain.

The implications of this uncertainty are significant for the Falcons and Vikings, who are vying for the return of their respective quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and potential trade candidate Justin Fields. Oddsmakers seem to favor the Falcons to land Fields, with DraftKings giving them -400 odds, while the Vikings are favored at -200 to keep Cousins.

Interestingly, the betting market shows some disagreement regarding the Falcons' involvement with McCarthy. DraftKings and Bet365 have the Falcons lower down the odds board at +950 and 10/1, respectively.

Adding to the intrigue is the reported admiration of Broncos head coach Sean Payton for the Michigan star. This further fuels the uncertainty surrounding McCarthy's fate on draft night.

At this point, there is no over/under draft pick number predicted for McCarthy, making it even more difficult to gauge where he may land. The situation mirrors what happened to draft prospect Will Levis in 2023, whose over/under was set at 6.5 prior to the draft. Despite a surge of bets favoring him as the top overall pick, Levis surprisingly fell to the second round and was ultimately selected by the Tennessee Titans.

While it remains uncertain whether McCarthy will face a similar fate as Levis, the odds seem to be trending in a direction reminiscent of what Levis experienced just 11 months ago.

As the draft night approaches, football enthusiasts and fans are eagerly awaiting to see which team will take a chance on McCarthy and how the quarterback landscape will shape up. Until then, it remains anyone's guess as to what the future holds for J.J. McCarthy.
