The Green Bay Packers are preparing for an intense kicking competition this upcoming season as they bring in veteran kicker Greg Joseph. NFL agent Brett Tessler recently announced that the Packers have signed the former Minnesota Vikings kicker to join their roster.

Joseph, who has been kicking in the NFL since 2018, spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Throughout his career, he has maintained an impressive field goal percentage of 82.6%, displaying his accuracy and reliability on the field.

The decision to bring in Joseph was made to provide some competition for second-year kicker Anders Carlson. Despite showing promise during his rookie season, Carlson faced some challenges and inconsistencies as the Packers' kicker in the previous year.

In terms of performance, Joseph has successfully converted 38 out of 58 kicks over 40 yards, which accounts for a 65.5% success rate. Furthermore, he boasts an impressive record of 15 successful field goals from 50 yards or more. However, he has struggled slightly with extra points, connecting on only 90% of them.

Interestingly, both Joseph and Carlson had similar statistics last season when it came to kicks of at least 40 yards, with both players going 7-of-13. Carlson unfortunately had a crucial miss during the Packers' divisional round loss to the 49ers, further motivating the team to seek veteran competition.

Surprisingly, Carlson actually had a slightly higher field goal percentage (81.8%) than Joseph (80.0%) last season. This fact adds even more intrigue to the upcoming kicking competition during training camp.

It's worth noting that earlier this offseason, the Packers also signed kicker Jack Podlesny. At this point, it remains uncertain if Podlesny will remain on the roster and compete alongside Carlson and Joseph or if the Packers will proceed with only Carlson and Joseph in the competition.

As the upcoming season approaches, the Packers are taking proactive steps to solidify their kicking game and ensure they can rely on a consistent and impactful performance from their kicker. The addition of Greg Joseph brings experienced competition to the roster and sets the stage for an exciting battle on the field.
