In response to their recent loss in Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers have made adjustments to their coaching staff. Three days after the defeat, it was announced that 45-year-old Sorensen, who joined the team in 2022 as a defensive assistant and later served as defensive passing game specialist/nickel backs, has been promoted. On the other hand, 40-year-old Bullocks, who has been with the 49ers since 2017, has also received a promotion. Bullocks started as an assistant defensive backs coach for two seasons before becoming the safeties coach from 2019 to 2022, and has now assumed a new role within the coaching staff.

While General Manager John Lynch and the scouting department are attending the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, head coach Shanahan and the coaching staff have opted to remain in Santa Clara to focus on their ongoing work. Sorenson, who previously served as the special teams coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the 49ers, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Seattle Seahawks under Pete Carroll, where he held various coaching positions from 2013 to 2020.

The promotion of Sorensen and Bullocks highlights the 49ers' commitment to strengthening their coaching staff as they regroup following the disappointing outcome of the Super Bowl. Their combined experience and expertise are expected to contribute significantly to the team's continued development and success in the upcoming seasons.
