In a heartbreaking turn of events, a candlelight vigil held in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to honor former Minnesota Vikings defensive back Khyree Jackson and his two friends who died in a car crash on July 6, was marred by a shooting incident. The vigil, attended by friends, family, and members of the community, took place at Jackson's former high school on Friday night.

According to the Prince Georges County Police Department, the shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the parking lot near the front of the school. Two individuals were shot, with one reportedly sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg and the other potentially struck in the chest. Upon their arrival, authorities found a man and woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Tragically, the male victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The female victim, however, is in stable condition. The police continue their investigation into the motive behind the shooting and have not released any information about potential suspects or a possible connection to the vigil.

Khyree Jackson, who was only 24 years old, had recently been drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. The news of his death devastated his family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as the entire Vikings organization. The team expressed their condolences in a statement, expressing their grief and support for Jackson's loved ones, as well as all the victims of the tragic car accident.

In addition to Jackson, the car accident also claimed the lives of his former Wise High School football teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. Hazel, 23, was driving a Dodge Charger at the time of the crash and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities found Jackson's lifeless body at the crash site as well. Lytton, 24, was transported to the hospital but was also later pronounced dead.

All three young men were instrumental members of Wise High School's state championship football team in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and memories.

As the investigation into the shooting and the car crash continues, the community remains in shock and mourning for these three promising young lives cut tragically short. The vigil that was meant to provide solace and remembrance turned into another devastating chapter in this heart-wrenching story.
