A recent NBC News national poll has revealed a shift in the 2024 presidential race, with Vice President Kamala Harris gaining momentum over former President Donald Trump. The poll, conducted from September 13-17, shows Harris leading Trump 49% to 44% among registered voters, within the margin of error. This marks a significant change from the previous poll in July when Trump was ahead by 2 points before President Joe Biden's exit from the race.

Harris' surge in popularity is evident with a remarkable 16-point increase in favorability since July, the largest jump for any politician in NBC News polling since former President George W. Bush's post-9/11 standing. The poll also indicates that Harris holds the edge over Trump on being competent, effective, and having the necessary mental and physical health to serve as president, a reversal from Trump's previous advantages in these areas against Biden.

Despite Harris leading in several key aspects, Trump maintains an advantage on economic issues such as the economy, inflation, and the border. However, the poll shows that some of Trump's support erosion has come from Republicans who are not staunch supporters of the former president. Overall, the 2024 presidential contest appears to be mirroring the dynamics of past elections with a deeply polarized electorate and an uncertain final outcome.
