### Sir Rod Stewart Cancels US Concerts Due to Illness Ahead of Glastonbury Appearance
Sir Rod Stewart has been forced to cancel several concerts in the United States as he recuperates from the flu. This announcement comes just weeks before his much-anticipated performance at the Glastonbury Festival, where he is slated to play the coveted teatime slot on Sunday, June 29th.
The 80-year-old rock legend took to Instagram to inform his fans about the cancellations, expressing his heartfelt regret. "So sorry my friends," he shared with his followers. "I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon." He signed off his message with a heartbreak emoji, listing the affected shows, which include performances in Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada, as well as two rescheduled dates in California.
This year marks 23 years since Sir Rod's last performance at the Somerset festival. Despite his recent illness, he remains enthusiastic about the upcoming Glastonbury event, reassuring fans that he is ready to deliver an unforgettable show. He will be joining a prestigious list of artists who have played the Sunday afternoon slot, a position known for drawing some of the festival's largest crowds.
Sir Rod, who is planning to cease large-scale world tours by the end of 2025 in favor of more intimate venues, will perform on the Pyramid Stage for an hour and fifteen minutes, though he has requested an additional 15 minutes.
In a recent conversation on That Peter Crouch Podcast, the singer revealed that he would be joined on stage by his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood during his Glastonbury set. This announcement has further heightened the anticipation for his performance.
Before the illness struck, Sir Rod delivered a notable performance on May 26th at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas, where he was honored with a lifetime achievement award. The award was presented to him by five of his grown-up children, adding a personal touch to the event. He also performed his iconic 1988 hit, "Forever Young."
Sir Rod is renowned for his timeless classics such as "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?", "Every Beat Of My Heart," and "Maggie May." His upcoming Glastonbury slot will see him follow in the footsteps of music legends such as Dolly Parton, Barry Gibb, Shania Twain, and Kylie Minogue. Notably, he will become the first artist to have both headlined the festival and been given the legends billing, following his previous 2002 appearance with Coldplay and Stereophonics.
As Glastonbury approaches, the festival has also announced its full line-up, keeping some mystery sets under wraps. Among the newcomers is the BBC Introducing stage, which will feature two musicians from Ipswich.
