Philadelphia Phillies infielder Trea Turner is making significant progress in his recovery from a left hamstring injury and could return to the lineup within the next week. Although there are still a few hurdles to clear before being activated from the 10-day injured list, there is a sense of optimism that Turner's recovery will not be hampered by setbacks.
Turner has been sidelined since May 3, when he strained his hamstring during a game. However, the player himself expressed confidence in his rehabilitation, stating that he is currently running at about 75-80 percent of full speed. This marks an improvement from his condition in late May, when he experienced a setback in Colorado.
Acknowledging his progress, Turner mentioned feeling more comfortable now compared to the earlier stages of his recovery. He no longer feels tightness in the injured area and is running with the same intensity. This positive development has strengthened Turner's belief that he can return to action soon.
Due to his past experiences with rehab assignments, Turner is unlikely to undergo one before being activated from the injured list. He believes that these assignments are only meant to tick off boxes and does not feel they provide much benefit to his recovery process. The Phillies respect his decision, as Bryce Harper had also chosen not to go on a rehab assignment last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
To aid his recovery and maintain his batting form, Turner has been utilizing the Trajekt machine, a pitching simulator, which accurately replicates real pitches from actual pitchers. Despite finding it challenging, Turner has found value in using the machine and believes it helps his brain adjust to different pitching scenarios.
Prior to his injury, Turner was a force for the Phillies, batting .343 with 10 doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, and an impressive .852 OPS. In his absence, Edmundo Sosa stepped up admirably, but will return to a utility role once Turner is back. However, the Phillies plan to incorporate Sosa in the outfield to keep his hot bat in the lineup.
Looking ahead, Turner aims to complete the remaining 20-25 percent of his sprinting exercises this week in Boston. While the injury itself is nearly resolved, he recognizes the importance of syncing his brain and body to perform at his best. Turner is optimistic but acknowledges the unpredictable nature of his recovery, stating that he cannot provide a specific return date.
The Philadelphia Phillies eagerly anticipate Trea Turner's return as they aim to strengthen their lineup. With his recovery progressing well, it seems it won't be long before the talented infielder is back in action, making an impact on the field once again.
