### Sheriff Issues Potential Charge After Missing Man Contacts Authorities from Eastern Europe

Law enforcement officials are dealing with a perplexing case involving a man who left his family and is now believed to be in eastern Europe. According to Sheriff Podoll, who has been briefed daily by his chief deputy since November 11, the man's whereabouts remain uncertain, but he has maintained some level of communication with the sheriff's office.

The individual, named Borgwardt, has not spoken to his family since his disappearance, leaving behind a wife and children. Sheriff Podoll has expressed determination in holding Borgwardt accountable for the disruptions caused by his departure. The sheriff's office is likely to file a charge of obstruction against him and will seek restitution between $35,000 and $40,000 to cover the expenses incurred during the search operations. This figure does not encompass the efforts by Bruce's Legacy or dive teams involved in the search.

Further complicating matters, Borgwardt might also face additional federal charges. Sheriff Podoll was reluctant to elaborate on the exact reasons behind Borgwardt's decision to leave, only noting that personal matters drove him to flee, believing it was the best way to address his issues. Despite these complexities, no arrest warrant has been issued yet.

Sheriff Podoll remains hopeful that Borgwardt will decide to return home voluntarily. With tears in his eyes, Podoll highlighted the approaching holiday season, suggesting that the best gift Borgwardt could offer his children would be to come home for Christmas.
