### Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Urges Democrats to Rediscover Their Path

At the California Democratic Party's state convention in Anaheim, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz shared insights on the current state of the Democratic Party. Despite his own unsuccessful 107-day presidential campaign alongside Kamala Harris, Walz spared no words in addressing the urgent need for a party rejuvenation.

Walz conveyed a poignant observation from a Georgia voter who likened the Democratic Party to a "deer in the headlights." He elaborated, explaining the party's current predicament as one where they see danger approaching but remain inert, ultimately succumbing to defeat. This analogy, he stressed, came from a supporter, highlighting the party's disarray even among its base.

Reflecting on the party's significant losses in the previous elections, where Republicans claimed control of the White House and both houses of Congress, Walz noted even Democratic strongholds like California faced challenges. With a supermajority in the California legislature, the party still saw about 2 million voters abstain from voting in 2024, and Trump gained traction nearly countywide.

Walz pinpointed a crucial issue: the Democratic Party's failure to deliver concrete results despite championing big ideas, leading voters to doubt their capability and concern. He emphasized the necessity for the party to return to delivering basic yet impactful services like securing meaningful employment with living wages, affordable housing, and quality education.

Walz offered examples from his tenure in Minnesota, such as implementing the highest child tax credit in the nation, providing free school meals for all public school students, and enacting 12 weeks of paid family leave. However, in California, high living costs remain an unresolved crisis despite similar initiatives. While elected Democrats acknowledge this pressing issue, consensus on a robust solution has been elusive beyond efforts to accelerate housing development processes.

After conducting town halls in various Republican districts including Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio, Walz concluded that political dynamics have shifted from traditional left-right spectrums to a focus on candidates' willingness to actively fight for their constituents. This insight aligns with his stark warning: "Nobody votes for roadkill."

In his closing remarks, Walz reiterated the urgency for Democrats to regain their confidence and effectiveness in governance, ensuring they don't merely talk about big ideas but also deliver tangible benefits to the working class and families.
