**Jimmy Buffett's Widow Seeks to Remove Co-Trustee from $275 Million Estate Over Allegations of Mismanagement**

Jane Buffett has filed a legal petition to remove Richard A. Mozenter as co-trustee of her late husband Jimmy Buffett's $275 million estate, claiming that he has not acted in her best interests. The widow asserts that Mozenter, who became co-trustee after Jimmy Buffett's death in September 2023, has shown "openly hostile and adversarial" behavior toward her.

The dispute centers around the delay and the projected income from the trust. Jane Buffett claims that it took over a year for Mozenter to provide an estimated income projection, a projection she describes as "shocking." The estate, she says, would purportedly yield less than $2 million annually, which is less than one percent of the total assets. This figure contrasts sharply with reported payouts, including $14 million from Buffett's Margaritaville company over the past 18 months.

Jane Buffett is also concerned about Mozenter’s approach and professional conduct. She states that communication with him has been "unprofessional and combative." Her counsel points out that Mozenter has complained that he cannot have "one productive conversation" with her and believes his time is "wasted." Additionally, Mozenter and his firm have billed the trust $1.75 million for their services in the last year.

A key aspect of the conflict occurred when Jane Buffett requested a financial projection meeting about future income from the trust. After a lengthy 16 months of what she calls "stonewalling" and "making excuses," Mozenter finally provided an income estimate which she found alarmingly low. Her subsequent requests for further details, particularly concerning the earnings from Margaritaville, were deflected by Mozenter without satisfactory responses.

In February 2025, Jane Buffett sent a detailed letter outlining her concerns, to which Mozenter responded by pointing her to the estate tax return and informing her he had retained counsel to address her complaints. Due to these ongoing issues, Jane Buffett is seeking Mozenter’s removal as co-trustee and proposes replacing him with Daniel Neidich, CEO of Dune Real Estate Partners.

Mozenter has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations.
