Whitmer, in a CNN interview, declined to take sides in the escalating conflict between the two Democrats.

During the interview on CNN's "State of the Union" show, Whitmer refrained from commenting on Tlaib's accusations against Nessel, stating, "I'm not going to get in the middle of this argument that they're having." However, Whitmer emphasized the importance of ensuring student safety on campuses while respecting individuals' rights to express their opinions. The situation has raised concerns about antisemitism, with the Anti-Defamation League CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, expressing disappointment in Whitmer's lack of a stronger stance against such discrimination.

Following the interview, Whitmer's spokesperson, Stacey LaRouche, released a statement reaffirming the governor's commitment to denouncing all forms of discrimination and supporting Nessel's dedication to upholding justice in Michigan. Nessel faced criticism from Tlaib after charging nine anti-Israel demonstrators and two counterprotesters for various offenses, including assaulting police and engaging in ethnic intimidation during protests at the University of Michigan last month. Tlaib accused Nessel of bias in handling the case, causing further tension within the Democratic party in Michigan.
