**Heightened Security for France-Israel Soccer Match Amid Rising Antisemitic Violence**
Paris police have announced the mobilization of 4,000 officers and 1,600 stadium staff to ensure the safety of the upcoming France-Israel soccer match. This security measure comes in the wake of last week's violent incidents targeting Israeli fans in Amsterdam.
The UEFA Nations League match, set for Thursday, will also see the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Elysee presidential palace. In response to the growing threat of attacks, Israel's National Security Council has advised its citizens abroad to avoid large gatherings, including the upcoming match in Paris.
Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez emphasized the heightened risk surrounding the event due to existing tensions. "There’s a context, tensions that make that match a high-risk event for us," he said in an interview with BFM TV. Nuñez affirmed that 2,500 officers will be stationed around the Stade de France, in addition to 1,500 deployed throughout the city and on public transportation. "There will be an anti-terrorist security perimeter around the stadium," he added, noting enhanced security checks including systematic pat-downs and bag searches.
Coordination efforts are underway between French organizers and Israeli security authorities to ensure a seamless security operation. The need for these measures was underscored by last week's incidents in Amsterdam, where Israeli fans were assaulted by young people reportedly motivated by social media calls to target Jews. These attacks, seen as antisemitic, led to hospital treatments for five people and numerous arrests.
In a move to show resilience, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed that the match would proceed as planned. "I think that for a symbolic reason we must not yield, we must not give up," he stated, highlighting the importance of upholding the "universal values" of sports that were also celebrated during the Paris Olympics this year.
President Macron's expected presence at the match is intended to demonstrate solidarity and fraternity in the face of rising antisemitic violence. An official from Macron's team, who wished to remain anonymous in accordance with Elysee customs, stated that his attendance serves as a clear message of unity following the unacceptable incidents in Amsterdam.
