Overnight, Ukrainian military drones targeted multiple Russian sites, striking airbases, fuel depots, and a high-tech missile plant, according to Ukraine's military claims. The attacks have reportedly intensified long-range assaults from both sides.
A significant target was the Engels airfield in the Saratov region, a hub for enemy aircraft operations. This site, located approximately 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and 730 kilometers from Moscow, experienced "multiple hits," leading to explosions and a substantial blaze at an oil refinery that serves the base. Eyewitnesses reported three fuel tanks caught fire. Saratov region Governor Roman Busargin confirmed a drone strike on an industrial site in Engels and noted some damage to an apartment block, though luckily no injuries were reported.
Ukrainian forces also struck Russian missile launchers in Bryansk, aiming to thwart a potential attack on Ukraine. Targets reportedly included Iskander launchers, a missile warehouse, and military aircraft stationed at the airport. Videos surfacing on social media depicted a massive fireball, believed to be from the Bryansk International Airport.
In another significant strike, Ukraine's military targeted the Dyagilevo airbase in the Ryazan region. This base, situated about 520 kilometers from Ukraine, serves as a support center for Russian missile strikes and a training facility. Ryazan region Governor Pavel Malkov stated that Russian air defenses intercepted the drones, with no casualties reported.
Additionally, a sophisticated aviation and missile control systems plant in Michurinsk, Tambov region, was struck. The Progress plant, which produces components for Russian missile and artillery systems, sustained damage. Tambov region Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov confirmed the attack, reporting three injured individuals who were subsequently hospitalized.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated it intercepted or neutralized 174 Ukrainian drones across 12 regions and occupied Crimea overnight, along with three anti-ship missiles over the Black Sea. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin mentioned that at least 10 drones were downed en route to the capital, leading to temporary flight groundings at three of Moscow's four airports, in addition to airports in the Kaluga, Saratov, and Samara regions.
Meanwhile, reports from Ukraine indicate that Russia launched a significant number of attacks overnight with 407 drones and 44 missiles targeting Ukrainian territory. These strikes resulted in at least four fatalities and numerous injuries.
Ukraine's General Staff stated, "Strikes on military infrastructure will continue until the complete cessation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine."
