The death of iconic actor John Amos at the age of 84 has ignited a heated dispute among his family and close acquaintances. The late actor, known for his roles in "Good Times" and "Roots," passed away on August 21. However, allegations have surfaced regarding the handling of his final days and the communication surrounding his death.

Amos’ daughter, Shannon Amos, along with goddaughter Amy Goudy and other family members, have voiced suspicions about how the situation was managed by John's son, Kelly Christopher "K.C." Amos. They claim that K.C. failed to inform the family of John's passing, which they consider troubling. The family further suspects that John's remains were cremated to possibly prevent further scrutiny into the conditions of his death.

Longtime publicist Belinda Foster, however, has refuted these claims. Foster, who worked with John Amos for over three decades, described her relationship with John as familial. According to her, accusations of elder abuse against K.C. are unfounded, noting that police had investigated these claims on several occasions and found no evidence of mistreatment.

A death certificate secured by PEOPLE confirms that John Amos passed away from congestive heart failure and was cremated on August 30. It was also confirmed that K.C. Amos was the informant and that K.C. currently holds his father's ashes.

Family members, including Shannon, allege that K.C. isolated the actor from his loved ones, monitored his communications, and severed ties with family members. They also claim that Shannon and others were kept in the dark about John's passing for 45 days and were shocked to learn about his death through media reports.

Foster counters these allegations by explaining that K.C. was under a court order precluding him from contacting Shannon due to earlier complaints she had filed. Foster added that John Amos had concerns about how his passing would be perceived and preferred delays in the announcement of his death to avoid unwanted publicity.

Despite the assurances from Foster and others close to K.C., Shannon and her supporters remain skeptical. They have raised questions about the lack of notification from medical professionals and the circumstances leading to John's cremation, suggesting possible foul play to alter wills and collect benefits. Such allegations also extend to Eugene Brummet and Foster, punctuating the family's distress.

In response to the allegations, Foster maintains that she will continue to act with professional integrity and compassion. She emphasized that John Amos was mentally sound, participating actively in various professional engagements in 2024. Foster urges a resolution that respects John's legacy as a remarkable actor and a community figure.

At present, the Los Angeles Police Department has indicated that there are no updates or plans to reopen the elder abuse case linked to John Amos. The family continues to seek clarity and justice amidst their grief, hoping to resolve the lingering questions surrounding the beloved actor's final days.
