Actor Chris Pratt honored his late "Parks and Recreation" co-star Jonathan Joss on social media, urging fans to embrace their loved ones closely. The heartfelt message came after news broke that Joss, known for his role as Chief Ken Hotate on the sitcom, was fatally shot in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday. He was 59 years old.
"Always such a kind dude," Pratt lamented on his Instagram Story, expressing his sorrow over Joss’ untimely death. Acknowledging Joss’ versatile roles, Pratt mentioned, "He played Ken Hotate in Parks and was also in Mag 7. Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones."
Joss' memorable performances spanned five episodes of "Parks and Recreation" between 2011 and 2015, where he endeared himself to fans with his portrayal of the wise and humorous Chief Ken Hotate. His notable work also extended to the 2016 film "The Magnificent Seven," where he and Pratt shared the screen once more.
Nick Offerman, who starred as Ron Swanson on "Parks and Recreation," revealed that the cast had been in constant communication as they grappled with their grief. He shared with People magazine, "The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken... Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy."
The investigation into Joss’ death continues, as the suspect was detained and charged with murder at the scene. On Joss’ Facebook page, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, disclosed that they had been victims of ongoing homophobic harassment and threats, which had resulted in their house being set on fire in the past.
However, the San Antonio Police Department stated that, as of now, there is "no evidence to indicate Mr. Joss' murder was related to his sexual orientation." The community mourns the loss of a beloved actor known for his kindness and impactful roles.
