**Suspected Drunken Driver Nearly Collides with Vice President Harris' Motorcade in Milwaukee**
A potentially disastrous incident was averted on Monday night when a suspected drunken driver narrowly missed Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade in Milwaukee. The driver, traveling the wrong way down the eastbound shoulder lane of Interstate 94, came dangerously close to the vice president's convoy, according to James Burnett, spokesperson for the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
The motorcade, which was heading along the same lane, fortunately avoided a collision. Authorities quickly intervened and apprehended the driver, a 55-year-old man, near 16th Street. The deputies noted an open container of alcohol in the SUV and performed field sobriety tests before arresting the man. He was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and recklessly endangering safety.
The dramatic incident was caught on a Department of Transportation camera, revealing the driver passing by Harris' motorcade amidst a flurry of flashing police lights and vehicles. As of Tuesday, the suspect remained detained at the Milwaukee County Jail, with no information available about his potential release or bond status.
Joe Biesk, a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, expressed gratitude to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office for their swift action. "We are grateful to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office for its response which allowed them to stop the motorist and take the driver into custody," Biesk stated.
Vice President Harris was in Milwaukee campaigning in Waukesha County with Election Day less than two weeks away. The timely response of local law enforcement ensured the safety of Harris and her motorcade during a critical period in the campaign.
