Tragic Accident Claims Life of Airport Employee at Austin Bergstrom International Airport

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning at Austin Bergstrom International Airport when an on-duty airport employee was fatally struck by a fuel truck. The incident occurred near a service road between gates 33 and 34, according to airport officials. The victim's identity and the ownership of the fuel truck remain unclear at this time.

Emergency services, including the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS, swiftly responded to the scene. CPR was administered to the injured employee; however, despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m.

The City of Austin Department of Aviation reported the incident, which took place on the secure side of the airport where airplanes park for passenger boarding. Airport operations and flights have not been affected by this tragedy, reassuring travelers that flights are operating as scheduled.

The Austin Police Department has launched an initial investigation into the incident to determine the cause and establish accountability. Authorities are working to identify the company employing the deceased individual and ascertain the ownership of the involved fuel truck.
