**United Airlines Suspends Starlink Service Over Interference Issues**
United Airlines has temporarily halted the use of Starlink broadband service on much of its regional fleet due to technical complications. Initially launched in May, Starlink was rolled out with a free-with-ads model and became popular among passengers for its speed and performance. United had ambitious plans to retrofit its entire two-cabin regional fleet with Starlink internet by the end of 2025.
The hitch occurred with nearly two dozen Embraer E175 regional jets, where static interference between pilot communication antennas and Starlink’s antennas was detected. This issue prompted the suspension, although United emphasized that it does not pose any flight safety risks. "This type of radio interference is fairly common with any new airline Wi-Fi provider," said a United spokesperson. However, they assured that the service is expected to resume on the affected aircraft soon.
According to The Points Guy, a third of the impacted planes have already undergone necessary fixes. United plans to address the issue during each aircraft’s scheduled maintenance, ensuring that no flights will be canceled as a result.
Even with the temporary halt, United continues to enhance its in-flight entertainment options. The airline recently announced that it is adding Spotify to the on-demand entertainment displays of over 680 aircraft, replacing the existing "Audio" option with curated Spotify playlists.
While United sorts out the technical glitches with Starlink, travelers can look forward to enjoying curated music playlists to make their flights more enjoyable.
