Texas yoga teacher Kaitlin Armstrong has gone on trial for the murder of Moriah 'Mo' Wilson, with prosecutors arguing that she stood over her love rival and shot her 'in the heart'. The explosive opening statements were delivered today, outlining the prosecution's case against Armstrong.

Wearing a navy jacket and with her auburn hair curled, Armstrong appeared in court, seemingly having returned to her natural hair color after dyeing it darker and undergoing plastic surgery while on the run. The 36-year-old is accused of shooting Wilson three times in cold blood in May 2022 after discovering text messages with her boyfriend, Colin Strickland.

Armstrong, however, denies the charges and her defense lawyers vowed to focus on 'reason, doubt, and common sense'. This assertion prompted continual objections from prosecutors, who expressed their frustration throughout the proceedings.

While cameras were allowed in the courtroom for the opening statements, the presentation of evidence will not be televised. Only the closing arguments will be filmed.

During their arguments, Armstrong's lawyers revealed that she had fled Austin to New York and subsequently Costa Rica after an initial police interview. They claimed that she was passionate about traveling and practicing yoga, and that she had started to fear for her safety due to strange occurrences at her home. The defense maintained that Armstrong was unaware that the police were searching for her.

The prosecution, on the other hand, informed the jury that they would hear Wilson's screams in surveillance footage from the scene, which they argue proves Armstrong's guilt. Furthermore, they claimed that Armstrong had even Googled herself while on the lam in Costa Rica.

According to the prosecutor, on the fateful night of May 11, 2022, at 9:15 pm, Wilson's chilling screams filled the air in Austin. The court was told that surveillance footage with accompanying audio would be played, allowing the jury to hear the screams alongside clapping sounds imitating gunshots. The prosecutor emphasized that Armstrong stood over Wilson and delivered a fatal shot directly to her heart.

To support their case, the prosecution plans to present additional evidence, including surveillance footage and cell phone records. They also intend to call Colin Strickland to testify about his relationship with Armstrong and his friendship with Wilson. Additionally, Armstrong's friend, Caitlin Cash, who discovered Wilson's body, is expected to take the stand and provide details about the gruesome scene.

Last year, after 43 days on the run in Costa Rica, Armstrong was apprehended by US Marshals following an extensive manhunt.

As the trial progresses, both sides will present their arguments and evidence in an effort to determine the truth behind the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful night in May 2022.
