The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has announced the cancellation of the precautionary boil water advisory for limited parts of Orleans East. The affected area included the entire Oak Island subdivisions and a portion of Michoud.
The precautionary boil water advisory was issued as a result of water pressures falling below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) due to a struck fire hydrant in New Orleans East, specifically on Caddo Place near Michoud Blvd.
SWBNO has emphasized their commitment to providing safe drinking water, and the advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution to ensure the public's safety. They extend their gratitude to the impacted residents and businesses for their patience during the advisory and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Customers who have not used their water supply during the precautionary boil water advisory are advised to flush their internal and external plumbing by running water through their system for several minutes.
Boil water advisories are issued whenever the water pressure drops below 20 psi, in accordance with the recommendations of their regulatory partner, LDH. This ensures that residents have access to safe and clean drinking water.
The SWBNO continues to work towards improving the water system, and they appreciate the patience of the residents. In case of experiencing very low or no water pressure, or witnessing a water or sewer emergency, individuals are urged to promptly call 504-52-WATER (504-529-2837) and choose the appropriate language option (1 for English) and 1 for emergencies.
The SWBNO, in collaboration with the LDH, remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of water quality and ensuring the well-being of the community.
