### Major Egg Recall by August Egg Company Due to Salmonella Concerns

**Hilmar, CA** - August Egg Company has announced a recall of approximately 1,700,000 dozen eggs, specifically brown cage-free and brown certified organic varieties, due to the risk of Salmonella contamination. This recall affects eggs distributed across several states including California, Nevada, Washington, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois.

The recall applies to eggs distributed between February 3, 2025, and May 15, 2025, with sell-by dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025. Retail outlets affected by this recall include Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley’s, Food 4 Less, Ralphs, and Walmart. The specific brands under recall include Clover Organic, First Street, Nulaid, O Organics, Marketside, Simple Truth, Sun Harvest, and Sunnyside.

Salmonella is a harmful bacterium that can cause severe infections in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can become more severe, leading to arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis if the bacteria enter the bloodstream.

August Egg Company has taken several immediate actions in response to the contamination risk. The company has been sending all eggs from the affected plant to an egg-breaking facility for over 30 days now. This facility pasteurizes the eggs to kill any potential pathogens, ensuring they are safe for consumption.

Consumers are advised to return any eggs identified by the plant code from the affected batches to their place of purchase for a full refund. The company’s internal food safety team is actively working on a comprehensive review to identify measures that will prevent such issues in the future.

"We are conducting this recall out of an abundance of caution," a spokesperson from August Egg Company said. "We are committed to addressing this matter fully and implementing all necessary corrective actions to ensure this does not happen again."
