According to NBC News, freeze alerts have been issued for 80 million people from parts of California to Pennsylvania, as freezing temperatures sweep across the United States on Halloween. The National Weather Service has warned that a broad cold front moving eastward from the central U.S. will bring temperatures significantly cooler than average, with drops of up to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in certain areas.
The coldest temperatures are expected in the Rockies and northern Plains, where daily lows could plummet into the single digits. This sudden cold snap has prompted residents across the affected regions to brace themselves for a chilly Halloween night.
In Texas, the cold front is anticipated to set records in several cities. Austin, Houston, and San Antonio may experience highs in the 40s, much cooler than their usual temperatures. These freezing conditions will create a stark contrast to the warmer weather experienced in the region just days earlier.
By Tuesday, the cold snap will extend to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, where temperatures reached the 70s and 80s over the weekend. Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, North Carolina, are expected to see a drastic drop of 20 degrees Fahrenheit within 24 hours.
Additionally, a fast-moving "clipper" system originating from Canada will bring snow showers and possible lake effect snow to the Great Lakes region on Monday. The National Weather Service has also forecasted the potential for additional snow showers as the system moves into the Upper Midwest on Tuesday.
While the nation braces itself for freezing temperatures and winter-like conditions, the National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring two disturbances in the Caribbean and Atlantic regions, which may develop into tropical storms over the coming week. The first disturbance, located east of the Bahamas, has a low chance of development. The second disturbance is expected to form a tropical depression and track towards Central America in the coming days.
As Halloween approaches, trick-or-treaters are advised to bundle up and take extra precautions due to the colder weather. It's essential for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about the freeze alerts and take necessary measures to stay warm and safe.
With Halloween festivities coinciding with this unexpected cold snap, it is important for individuals to be mindful of the significant temperature drop and make appropriate adjustments to their plans to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.
