In a recent CNN interview, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett addressed the Israeli security operation that took place at the Ibn Sina Hospital in the West Bank. The operation successfully foiled a terror attack, and Bennett stood firm in defending the tactics used by Israeli counterterrorism forces.
The interview began with the CNN host questioning Bennett's comfort level with the tactics employed by the Israeli forces, who disguised themselves as doctors and nurses to enter the hospital. In response, Bennett redirected the focus towards terrorists using hospitals as safe havens. He stressed that Israel is being held to double standards, as Hamas terrorists have no respect for civilian areas and often use hospitals, schools, and kindergartens as hiding places.
Bennett highlighted the ongoing issue in the West Bank and Gaza, where Hamas terrorists frequently seek refuge in such locations. He emphasized Israel's efforts to meticulously extract these terrorists from their hiding spots. Despite the host's insistence on the specific case at the Ibn Sina Hospital, Bennett compared it to a hypothetical scenario where Osama bin Laden would be targeted even if in a hospital, citing the necessity to neutralize high-profile terrorists.
According to Israeli security forces, the security operation led to the elimination of three terrorists who were planning an attack inspired by the October 7 massacre. One of the deceased terrorists, Mohammed Jalamna, had utilized the Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin as a base for his terror activities. Jalamna had been in contact with Hamas leadership abroad and was responsible for smuggling weapons and ammunition to Hamas terrorists stationed in the West Bank.
The other two terrorists, Mohammed and Basel Ghazawi, were also involved in various terror activities. Mohammed Ghazawi was associated with Hamas and had participated in terror attacks, while Basel Ghazawi belonged to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group and carried out terror activities on its behalf.
Bennett's defense of the Israeli security operation underscores the complexity of Israel's fight against terrorism and the challenges it faces in balancing legitimate security concerns with the safety and well-being of civilians.
