### Russian Forces Push to the Edge of Dnipropetrovsk Amid Escalating Conflict
Russia announced significant advances in Ukraine, as its troops have reached the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region. This development comes amid heightened tension between Moscow and Kyiv over stalled peace negotiations and the return of soldiers' bodies.
In recent military maneuvers, Russian forces have captured more than 190 square kilometers of the Sumy region, rapidly approaching the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to defense ministry reports. Specifically, units from the 90th Tank Division have moved to the western frontier of Ukraine's Donetsk region, pushing into Dnipropetrovsk.
Kyiv has yet to comment on these latest troop movements. However, pro-Ukrainian sources like the Deep State map indicate that Russian forces are indeed nearing Dnipropetrovsk, a region that had more than 3 million residents before the outbreak of war.
Meanwhile, Russia has accused Ukraine of delaying the exchange of prisoners of war and the return of the bodies of 12,000 deceased soldiers. Ukrainian officials have denied these claims. On Sunday, Moscow revealed that it was transporting the bodies of fallen soldiers toward the border.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently remarked on the conflict, likening it to a quarrel between children and suggesting that he might have to allow it to continue without intervention. On the diplomatic front, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed doubts about Ukraine's desire for peace after accusing Ukraine of orchestrating a deadly bombing in Bryansk, Russia, just before peace talks were set to begin in Turkey.
Ukraine has also accused Russia of not being serious about peace, pointing to Moscow's resistance to an immediate ceasefire as evidence. Russia has demanded international recognition of Crimea, annexed in 2014, along with four other Ukrainian regions it claims as its own. Ukraine would have to withdraw its forces from these areas for peace to be feasible, Russia insists.
Current control maps from Deep State show Russia holding about 18.8% of Ukrainian territory, including nearly all of Luhansk and significant portions of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Additionally, Russian forces occupy parts of the Kharkiv and Sumy regions in the northeast.
Putin also warned that Russia would retaliate against Ukrainian drone strikes on its bomber fleet and railway bombings. U.S. officials suggest that this retaliation has not yet materialized but is expected to be a considerable, multifaceted attack.
On the battlefield, Russia targeted the northeastern city of Kharkiv with a barrage of drones, missiles, and guided bombs, killing at least four people and injuring over 60, including a baby. Moscow has also claimed to have downed 61 Ukrainian drones in the Moscow region overnight, leading to the temporary closure of two major airports.
