In a dramatic turn of events, federal investigators have revealed that a local want ad for a yoga instructor in Costa Rica played a crucial role in capturing the woman responsible for the murder of rising pro cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson in 2022. The convicted killer, Kaitlin Armstrong, has since been sentenced to a lengthy 90-year prison term for her crime.
Prior to her capture, Armstrong had been on the run for over a month, with investigators believing she was attempting to evade capture by moving around Costa Rica in search of work as a yoga instructor. Her efforts, however, ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Deputy U.S. Marshals Emir Perez and Damien Fernandez, speaking in an interview with the CBS crime program "48 Hours," disclosed that their pursuit of Armstrong had hit numerous dead ends in the beachside town of Santa Teresa. In a last-ditch attempt to locate her, the marshals decided to place a want ad on a local Facebook page, specifically seeking a yoga instructor "as soon as possible."
Days passed without any responses, until finally, a woman came forward and agreed to a meeting. To the investigators' shock, it turned out that this person was none other than Armstrong herself. Notably changed in appearance, she had altered her hair color, and even undergone plastic surgery on her nose. Armstrong still bore the evident signs of her recent operation, with a bandage prominently visible on her face.
Perez, who met Armstrong at a hostel, recognized her distinctive eyes from the photographs they had of her. "The eyes are the exact same ones that I saw in the picture. And this is her 100 percent," he recounted. Local authorities promptly made the arrest, and Armstrong was promptly extradited back to Texas to stand trial for her heinous act.
Anna Moriah Wilson, a Vermont native and former alpine skier at Dartmouth College, was a rising star in the world of gravel and mountain bike riding. Tragically, her life was cut short when she was killed in an apartment in Austin, Texas. Wilson had been eagerly preparing to participate in a highly anticipated Texas race, where she was regarded as one of the favorites to secure victory.
The capture of Kaitlin Armstrong brings a sense of closure to the shocking murder case, and justice for the loss of Anna Moriah Wilson. As her family and the cycling community continue to mourn their devastating loss, Armstrong's conviction serves as a stark reminder that the pursuit of justice knows no bounds, even across international borders.
