Deputy Involved in Shooting Incident Under Investigation in Douglas County

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with Omaha police and Nebraska State Patrol, is currently investigating a shooting incident involving a deputy. According to the initial information provided by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), the incident took place on Saturday at approximately 4:51 a.m. in the vicinity of 108th and Maple streets.
The sheriff's deputy involved in the incident was reportedly on their way to work at the Douglas County Law Enforcement Center when they came across a rapidly unfolding fight disturbance. Sensing the need for immediate assistance, the deputy promptly contacted dispatch to request on-duty law enforcement support.
As per DCSO, backup units were swiftly alerted to expedite their response at 4:52 a.m., and within minutes, a "help officer" call was issued at 4:54 a.m. While the exact circumstances leading up to the deputy discharging their weapon have not been disclosed by the DCSO, it has been confirmed that the deputy did fire their weapon during the encounter.
The male individual involved in the disturbance sustained injuries as a result of the shooting and was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he is currently in serious but stable condition. Upon discharge from medical care, he will be taken into custody and face multiple charges, including 3rd-degree domestic assault, domestic assault with threat to an intimate partner, theft by shoplifting, driving under suspension, providing false information, failure to use a turn signal, damage to property, and disorderly conduct.
