Pearland, Texas - A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend at Cole's Antique Village and Flea Market in Pearland, where a mass shooting claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy and left four others injured. Authorities are now intensifying their search for one of the suspects, 18-year-old David Negrete.
The shooting occurred on Sunday evening, shortly after 5:30 p.m., at the flea market located in the 10000 block of North Main in Brazoria County. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they discovered five individuals who had been shot.
All five victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, but sadly, the 10-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Among the injured were a 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old man, who has since been released from the hospital. Fortunately, the 14-year-old girl is expected to recover.
The investigation has revealed that an argument between Negrete and another individual escalated into a violent exchange of gunfire. Tragically, the children became innocent victims caught in the crossfire. Pearland police believe that at least two other individuals were involved in the shooting and are actively working to identify them.
Officer Chad Rogers expressed the shock felt by the Pearland community, emphasizing that incidents of this nature are uncommon in the area. "No, this is not anything that happens in Pearland," Rogers stated. "It is extremely tragic anytime someone is a victim of gun violence, especially in our community. This does not happen here in Pearland."
Authorities have confirmed that two handguns were used in the shooting, but the exact number of shots fired is yet to be determined. The Pearland Police Department Tip Line can be contacted at (281) 997-5828, and information can also be reported to Brazoria County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222.
