In a recent revelation, veteran edge rusher Von Miller opened up about his struggles during the previous season and acknowledged that he probably should not have played. The 35-year-old player, known for his exceptional career with multiple double-digit sack seasons, experienced a disappointing year with the Buffalo Bills.
Miller, who missed the entire 2020 season due to an ankle injury, returned to the field last year but failed to make a significant impact. He made no starts, played in just 12 games, and saw action on only 32 percent of the snaps. Furthermore, he recorded no sacks, three quarterback hits, and three tackles throughout the entire season.
During a recent interview, Miller disclosed that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee on Thanksgiving in 2022. Reflecting on his decision to continue playing, Miller admitted, "Sitting out probably should have happened, but I didn't want that to happen. I wanted to be out there and play." Despite struggling with his knee injury, Miller's determination pushed him to stay on the field, even though he knew his performance would be limited.
The experienced pass rusher, who has amassed an impressive 123.5 career sacks, expressed disappointment in his lack of production last season. Miller, who is known for his optimistic mindset, had set high goals for himself, including reaching the top 10 on the all-time sacks list. However, circumstances had different plans for him, and he finished the season without any sacks.
Miller finally felt a glimpse of his old self during the divisional round of the playoffs, where he made two tackles in only 15 snaps. This served as a reminder of what he is capable of when fully healthy. Fortunately, Miller now states that he is feeling good and is practicing without any limitations.
Moving forward, Miller understands that this upcoming season will be critical for his future opportunities in the league. Although reaching his goal of 15 sacks this season seems unlikely, Miller remains determined to make the most of his third season with the Buffalo Bills. Despite struggling to achieve high sack numbers over the past five seasons, Miller is keen to bounce back and demonstrate his true potential on the field.
As the new season approaches, Miller's candid admission about his challenging season and decision to play through injury shows his dedication and passion for the game. With a healthier mindset and renewed determination, Von Miller aims to make a strong impact for the Bills and prove that he still has what it takes to be a dominant force in the NFL.
