In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Bazylevych family, known for their closeness and support for one another, has been struck by an unimaginable tragedy. Daryna Bazylevych, in her college application letter, described her family as "incredibly close knit and harmonious," highlighting the love and support they shared. Unfortunately, on Wednesday, a Russian strike on their home in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv claimed the lives of Daryna's mother, two sisters, and left only her father, Yaroslav, as the lone survivor.

Eyewitnesses have reported that Daryna, her sisters Yaryna and Emilia, along with their mother Yevhenia, were seeking shelter in the staircase of their residential building when the missile struck. Yaroslav, who was in the family apartment fetching water, miraculously survived the devastating incident. The close-knit family's pillar of strength, Yaroslav, expressed immense sorrow and disbelief over the loss of his beloved wife and daughters.

The untimely deaths of the three sisters and their mother have sent shockwaves of grief across Lviv and the entire nation of Ukraine. Daryna, the middle sister, was a promising scholarship student of Ukrainian culture at the Ukrainian Catholic University. She had just begun her second year at the university, leaving her dreams and aspirations cut short tragically.

The Ukrainian Catholic University released a statement expressing profound sadness, stating, "This is a great and irreparable loss. There are no words that can describe this grief. Let us pray for the souls of the innocent victims. Let us pray for Yaroslav, the father." The university mourned the loss of a bright student with immense potential.

Yevhenia, the mother, and the two older girls were actively involved in the Ukrainian Scouts movement, a community known for fostering creativity and positive spirits. The Scouts described Yevhenia as a "creative, intelligent, positive and bright personality," highlighting the impact she had on the community.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over the perception of safety in Lviv, a city historically seen as one of the safest places in Ukraine. Located near the Polish border, Lviv has provided refuge for tens of thousands of internally displaced people from the eastern regions of Ukraine due to ongoing conflicts. The city's distance from Russia allows Ukrainian military forces more time to intercept missiles and drones, making it an unexpected target.

Regrettably, the Bazylevych family was not the only one affected by violence on Wednesday. In Lviv alone, seven people lost their lives. The previous day, a military educational facility in Poltava was struck by two Russian missiles, resulting in the deaths of 53 people and causing injuries to over 270 others.

The loss of the Bazylevych family serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing conflicts and the devastating toll they exact on innocent lives. As Ukraine mourns the loss of these beloved souls, the nation remains committed to seeking peace and resolution to end the cycle of violence that has brought nothing but tragedy and heartbreak.
