Tragic Car Crash Claims Lives of Minnesota Vikings Rookie Khyree Jackson and Two Former College Players
In a devastating incident, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson and two former college football players lost their lives in a car crash. Maryland State Police confirmed the news, stating that the accident occurred at 3:14 a.m. on Saturday in Prince George's County.
The 24-year-old Jackson was traveling in a Dodge Charger driven by Isaiah Hazel, one of his high school teammates, when their vehicle was struck by an Infiniti Q50 attempting to change lanes at a high speed. The impact caused the Charger to veer off the road and collide with tree stumps. Both Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene. Anthony Lytton Jr., another high school teammate, was also in the vehicle and was transported to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Isaiah Hazel, 23, had played football for both Maryland and Charlotte universities, while Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, had played for Florida State and Penn State. The driver of the Infiniti Q50 and her two passengers, as well as the driver of the third vehicle involved, fortunately escaped without injuries.
Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the crash and have stated that charges are pending. The tragic accident has left the community and the sports world mourning the loss of these young athletes.
Khyree Jackson, who was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of this year's draft, was considered a strong contender to start as a cornerback. The team expressed their devastation in a statement, extending their sympathies to Jackson's family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as to all the victims of the tragic accident.
Jackson's talent and contagious energy had quickly made him a favorite among Vikings fans. He had a remarkable football journey, facing challenges and setbacks along the way. After graduating from Wise High School in 2017, he initially struggled academically and spent time at multiple junior colleges. However, he eventually made his way to Alabama under the guidance of coach Nick Saban. Jackson's perseverance and determination paid off, leading him to be selected by the Vikings.
Head Coach Kevin O'Connell expressed his grief and admiration for Jackson, praising his character and his desire to be the best person he could be both on and off the field. O'Connell emphasized that Jackson's impact and potential as a professional football player were only surpassed by his commitment to his family and those around him.
The sports community is left mourning the loss of a promising young athlete whose journey to the NFL had inspired many. Khyree Jackson's story of resilience and growth will continue to be remembered and celebrated as a testament to his strength and determination.
