As the fourth annual MLB Draft Combine concludes in Phoenix, several players have emerged as standouts, capturing the attention of scouts and potentially improving their draft stock. The event, held at Chase Field, featured physical evaluations and interviews with teams, giving players a chance to showcase their skills and make a lasting impression.

One player who has significantly improved his draft projection is shortstop Wetherholt. For the first time this season, Wetherholt is being projected to go first overall in two prominent mock drafts by Baseball America and ESPN. His presence at the Combine, along with his confidence in his ability as a shortstop, has solidified his position as a top candidate for the first pick in the upcoming MLB Draft on July 14.

Pitcher Brecht also stood out among the conversations with potential first-round picks. Despite being just scratching the surface of his potential, Brecht's impressive performance throughout the season, including discussions with a mental skills coach, has helped him establish himself as a contender to be one of the top pitchers in this year's draft.

Two slugging first basemen, Jared Jones from LSU and Hunter Hines from Mississippi State, showcased their power at the Combine. Jones displayed the highest exit velocity of the week, while Hines impressed with a series of impressive shots to right field. Although Hines boasts left-handed hitting, Jones, a draft-eligible sophomore, is considered the superior prospect due to his marked improvement in various aspects of his game during his second season.

Chase Harlan, a third baseman from Central Bucks East High School in Pennsylvania, caught attention with his prodigious blasts during the Trackman-monitored BP sessions. His powerful right-handed swing and impressive home runs showcased his potential, although concerns about his contact skills remain. Harlan's performance at the Combine could significantly impact his future in professional baseball.

Another player that has flown under the radar is Boettcher, who previously played as a part-time player on the baseball team at Oregon while also excelling as a linebacker. His improved offensive statistics, exceptional defense in center field, and the recognition with a Rawlings Gold Glove Award have caught the attention of scouts. Boettcher's relatively short track record in baseball and his athleticism suggest untapped potential as he transitions to a full-time focus on the sport.

Knipp, a catcher for the Fighting Camels, displayed impressive power and velocity during his Combine performance. Despite a disappointing season for his team, Knipp delivered a standout performance with a BP session that included a 404-foot home run and a bullpen session featuring a 96.8 mph fastball. Knipp's tools and potential could make him an intriguing prospect in professional baseball.

High school pitcher Trey Gregory-Alford from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs showcased his exceptional velocity, reaching 100 mph during his mound session. Gregory-Alford's high-octane arm has positioned him as one of the hardest throwers in this year's draft class, making him an enticing prospect for teams.

Dennis Colleran from Northeastern University showcased his high-end velocity during the bullpen sessions at the Combine. While Colleran struggled with his command and results during his junior year at Northeastern, his impressive stuff suggests the potential for future success with the right development and adjustments.

Another standout player at the Combine was Flewelling, a left-handed catcher from Canada. With an impressive spring season and a strong performance during batting practice, Flewelling has emerged as one of the top Canadian prospects in this year's draft class. Despite his young age, Flewelling's all-around skill set and roots in Alberta make him a unique and promising prospect.

As the MLB Draft approaches, the performances and improvements showcased by these players at the Combine have caught the attention of scouts and could have a significant impact on their draft positions. The coming weeks will undoubtedly be crucial for these players as they continue to make their case to be selected in the upcoming draft.
