Albuquerque, New Mexico - A daring shoplifter in New Mexico was swiftly caught by local law enforcement, thanks to the use of horses. The incident took place outside a Walgreens store, where the suspect attempted to outrun a horse-mounted police officer.

Albuquerque police bodycam footage captured the dramatic chase, showing a man dressed in black clothing being pursued by a dark-brown horse through the store's parking lot. Within moments, the agile horse caught up to the suspect, forcing him to continue his escape on foot.

Desperately trying to evade capture, the man shouted, "It wasn't me!" as he led the police officer and horse into the busy street, successfully bringing traffic to a halt. However, his hopes of escape were dashed when two additional police officers on horseback swiftly arrived at the scene.

The video footage reveals the moment the suspect found himself completely surrounded by the mounted officers. One of the officers skillfully dismounted his horse and proceeded to handcuff the shoplifter, who was later identified as having stolen merchandise worth $230 from the Walgreens store.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department, the suspect has been charged with shoplifting and will face legal consequences for his actions. The department credited the use of mounted police officers for their swift response and successful apprehension of the shoplifter.

This incident is a testament to the unique advantage that horses provide in certain situations, allowing officers to navigate through crowded areas more efficiently and create a strong presence. The Albuquerque Police Department continues to utilize various resources and tactics to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.

Authorities hope that this event serves as a warning to potential criminals that the long arm of the law, or in this case, the quick hooves of a horse, will always be ready to apprehend those who seek to break the law.
