The Seattle Seahawks have announced the signing of 16 undrafted free agents as they kick off their rookie minicamp. Among the new additions is quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, who brings a wealth of experience to the team.
Cordeiro, who started 25 games for San Jose State and 23 games at Hawaii before transferring, is expected to provide depth and competition at the quarterback position. Last season, he showcased his skills with 2,773 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and just four interceptions.
While Geno Smith remains the Seahawks' starter and Sam Howell was acquired as a backup in March, Cordeiro will look to impress during the minicamp and potentially secure a roster spot. Additionally, Taulia Tagovailoa, former Maryland starter, joins the minicamp as a tryout player, further adding to the quarterback competition.
In addition to Cordeiro, the Seahawks have made several other signings across different positions. Sunny Anderson from Grambling State, Nelson Ceaser from Houston, and Easton Gibbs from Wyoming have bolstered the team's linebacker corps. Garret Greenfield from South Dakota State brings his skills to the tackle position, while Hayden Hatten from Idaho adds depth to the wide receiver unit.
The Seahawks have also welcomed George Holani from Boise State as a new running back, Carlton Johnson from Fresno State as a cornerback, and DeVere Levelston from SMU as a defensive end. The team further boosted its running back options with Kobe Lewis from Florida Atlantic and TaMerik Williams from North Dakota State.
Rounding out the Seahawks' undrafted free agent signings are Mike Novitsky from Kansas as a center, Ro Torrence from Arizona State as a cornerback, Jack Westover from Washington as a tight end, and Dee Williams from Tennessee as a wide receiver. Rason Williams II from Louisiana Tech completes the group as another linebacker addition.
With an influx of talented undrafted free agents, the Seahawks' rookie minicamp promises to be an intense and competitive environment as players vie for roster spots and seek to make a lasting impression on the coaching staff. The added depth and competition will undoubtedly push the team to new levels as they prepare for the upcoming season.
