### Saints Quarterback Derek Carr Retires Due to Shoulder Injury
The New Orleans Saints have confirmed the retirement of quarterback Derek Carr, officially placing him on the reserve/retired list. The unexpected decision came after Carr experienced significant right shoulder pain in May, which was diagnosed as a labral tear along with degenerative changes in his rotator cuff.
Carr, a standout second-round pick from the 2014 draft, ended his career following a two-year stint with the Saints. During his 2024 season, Carr managed to start only 10 games but showcased his accuracy by completing 67.7 percent of his passes. He accumulated 2,145 passing yards, with 15 touchdowns against five interceptions.
Before joining the Saints, Carr had an impressive nine-season tenure with the Raiders, where he left a lasting mark by becoming the franchise's all-time passing leader. Over his career, he amassed a total of 41,245 passing yards, threw 257 touchdowns, and recorded 112 interceptions. Despite these personal achievements, his career record stood at 77-92 as a starter.
Carr's retirement marks the end of a significant era for the Raiders and a brief, yet impactful, chapter with the Saints. His departure also signals a new direction for New Orleans as they seek to fill the void left by the experienced quarterback.
