### Jim Donovan, Iconic Voice of the Browns, Passes Away at 68

Cleveland – Jim Donovan, a cherished figure in the world of sports broadcasting and the long-time radio play-by-play announcer for the Cleveland Browns, passed away on Saturday at the age of 68. Donovan, who retired earlier this year due to health issues, had an illustrious career spanning over four decades.

Donovan, affectionately known to fans and colleagues as "Jimmy," began calling games for the Browns in 1999, marking the team's expansion rebirth. His dedication and passion for the sport made him a beloved figure in Cleveland. Donovan announced his retirement before the start of this season to focus on his battle with cancer.

Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam expressed their deep sorrow, stating, "This is an incredibly difficult day for us and the entire Cleveland Browns organization. His impact as the Voice of the Browns for 25 years is immeasurable as he touched the lives of our fans each and every Sunday with his love for the Browns and his brilliance at his craft."

Jimmy Donovan's career was highlighted by his meticulous preparation and his ability to connect with fans through his humor and professionalism. A native of Boston and a graduate of Boston University, Donovan moved to Cleveland in 1985. Over the years, along with his local reporting on Cleveland’s three professional sports franchises, he garnered national recognition, contributing to NBC's coverage of the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.

Recently inducted into the Browns' Legends Club and the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame, Donovan was unable to attend the ceremonies due to his illness. In a heartfelt letter to Browns fans written in August, he expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support throughout his career.

"I have called Browns games for 25 years. Not a day has gone by when I haven't paused and been so proud to be 'The Voice of the Browns,'" Donovan wrote. "Cheryl, Meghan and I thank you for all the love, support and prayers during my rough patches. It's like having a huge family around us. And that's what makes the Cleveland Browns so special. You do."

Donovan stepped down last fall as the sports director at WKYC-TV to undergo treatment for leukemia but made a triumphant return to the broadcast booth to cover the Browns' playoff push. His commitment to his work and his ability to push through personal challenges endeared him even more to the Cleveland community.

Jim Donovan’s legacy as a broadcaster and his contributions to sports journalism will be remembered by the countless fans and colleagues who had the privilege to experience his extraordinary career. His enduring impact on the Cleveland Browns and his love for the community will live on.
