Baltimore Ravens Rookie Nate Wiggins Out for Game Against Las Vegas Raiders Following Car Crash
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Nate Wiggins, the first-round pick for the Baltimore Ravens, will be unable to play in Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. This comes after Wiggins was involved in a car crash on Wednesday. While Ravens coach John Harbaugh assured that Wiggins is healthy and fine, he will not be able to take the field. Harbaugh expressed that the situation does not appear to be too serious.
Wiggins, a rookie cornerback, becomes the fourth Ravens player to be involved in a car accident this summer. Among the others were tight end Mark Andrews, outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy, and inside linebacker Josh Ross. The Ravens added Wiggins to the injury report on Thursday with a neck injury, and he did not participate in practice on either Thursday or Friday.
In the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Wiggins, who was the 30th overall pick in this year's draft, showed promise as a backup. He made two tackles and played 17 snaps on defense. However, it remains uncertain how long Wiggins will be sidelined beyond Week 2. Harbaugh stated that the doctors are still unsure about the extent of his injury and how it may affect his availability in future games.
On a more positive note for the Ravens, Kyle Van Noy returned to practice on Friday after missing the past two days with an eye injury. Van Noy expressed optimism about his chances of playing in Sunday's game. Earlier in the week, he criticized the medical staff of the Chiefs for what he perceived as a lack of urgency in treating his fractured orbital bone. The NFL confirmed on Thursday night that they had reviewed the case and were satisfied that appropriate care had been provided by both medical staffs.
When asked about the topic, Van Noy declined to delve further into his treatment in Kansas City, preferring to focus on the upcoming game against the Raiders. He stated that he is excited for the possibility of taking the field and putting the incident behind him.
With Wiggins out for the game, the Ravens will rely on their remaining roster players to step up and fill the void. The team will hope for a successful outcome against the Las Vegas Raiders as they look to extend their winning start to the 2021 season.
